10 Amazing Things That Happened to Me Recently Which Are Arranged in No Particular Order:

1. Exams ended.

I shall never get sick of this. But it is rather masochistic fun to wake up and make yourself panic over having so much to do, like OH NO I HAVE TO STUDY, and then you hold it in for awhile, and then go NAAAHHH and go back to sleep. Or whatever it is you're doing which doesn't involve studying. Or self-imposed Russian homework.

2. Uncle Sasquatch came to stay for a few days.

Also known as, why I look forward to Decembers so much :)

3. Neil Gaiman used the picture I drew of him as his Twitter profile picture.

I found out late one night while studying because I got an anonymous comment on my entry about his signings, so I hyperventilated for like the rest of the night, hahaha. Though it's kinda traumatising that he got the photo from my LJ (HOW?? HOW???), I'm really really happy he likes it so much! He posted a tweet when he changed his picture, it said, "Right. New icon in place. Truthfully, it may be too small, and may not last long. But it makes me smile." Adskfjhdsfk I was so touched when I read that *cue indistinct blubbering* <3

4. I know where to get Cadbury Flakes in Singapore now.

Okay, well, not the proper bars that my Flake-obsessed Purist uncle is used to (go get your fix in Canada!) since they're treat-sized and come in baggies of 12, but at least they exist eh! We went on a rampage hunting for Flakes while he was in Singapore and yeah, they're good even though they look like little turds, HAHA. FYI, you can get them from Candy Empire for $7.80 a bag. If you're broke like me, however, you can always get Cadbury Twirls, which are like cheaper supermarket substitutes for non-Flake-obsessed Purists, hahaha. Please, it's Cadbury milk chocolate, how wrong can it get?

5. Meranda got a free cable tv channel called Russia Today.

I ran over after my last exam to watch. As always, I DO IT OUT OF LOVE <3

6. Watched Coraline in 3D with Meranda and Liz.

After checking out Russia Today at Mren's house, hahaha. My first 3D movie! That movie is just awesome beyond words, I feel so ashamed for not having read the book proper. Come the next Kino sale, I will finally buy my own copy and repent X<

7. Went to AFA with Jenn and Edlyn.

More awesome con stuff to add to my hoard of Hetalia things, hahaha! And it is always great to see old friends again, I miss you guys and AC life so much!!

8. My Political Science exam.

There was a section where we were given quotes from readings and lecture materials and we had to write about their significance and stuff, and this came out:
"The only people we hate more than the Romans are the %&$#@ Judean People's Front." -- Representative of the People's Front of Judea (from film Life of Brian)
WIN. SHEER WIN.

9. http://kolkolkol.com

I think it's pretty self-explanatory don't you think XD

10. CHRISTMAS IS COMINNNGGG~

Would you rent or buy the home of your dreams if a brutal murder had taken place there? What if you got to live there rent-free? Would you think twice if neighbors warned you that it was haunted?

View 995 Answers

I would absolutely live there because it wouldn't be the house of my dreams in the first place if it hadn't been the site of a brutal murder. I would probably also give the neighbours something else to worry about once I move in, but such is life eh.

One year ago, I had a cold miserable carpal tunnel Halloween sitting for my SEA History paper. This year, my Halloween was cold (thanks to a huge storm in the evening) and maybe kinda miserable (thanks to a snaking queue of endless snakiness), but the one probably getting carpal tunnel this time wasn’t me because I’m not the genius that is Neil Gaiman. That being said, HE SIGNED MY COPY OF NEVERWHERE, YESSS!!! BEST. HALLOWEEN. EVER.

The World Cup is coming soon again and I almost forgot about it until the news of Germany beating Russia 1-0 in the qualifiers, DAMMIT GERMANY YOU’RE NOT EVEN AS GOOD AS YOU WERE LAST TIME, PLAIN INCREDIBLE LUCK D< And so I stayed up the other night to watch Russia vs Azerbaijan and WTF A TIE SRSLY WTF, WHYYY DX You were doing so well in the first half tooo and askjdsfk why did you let a defender take a penalty srsly >_> Oh Ivan, at least you’re in the play-offs so you still have a chance, YOU CAN DO IT I KNOW YOU CAN X< If the tie wasn’t worth staying up past 2am at the end of a long, tiring day, MY LOVE FOR YOU IS <3 Watching football and cheering for Russia reminds me of that scene in Daywatch when Anton switched bodies with Olga and watched Russian football on Svetlana’s TV, hahaha! Anton-Olga you are such a fierce tranny football hooligan XD But I am a football fraud since the only time I ever get excited over it is during World Cup or when Singapore plays against Malaysia :P

Aah, English group project and Social Work group paper due this coming week, and then gotta work on my Political Science term paper... Husband, how your wife suffers! :( But my suffering is a pittance compared to yours eh, so I shall not whine and TAKE IT LIKE A MAN EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT ONE :< A lot of times I wonder why I do this to myself, I think deep down is this conviction that I deserve to suffer, hahaha! Or maybe I just refuse to believe I can’t take it. But at least I am not masochistic to the point of self-flagellation as demonstrated by the likeably scary Silas (non, pain is not always good, monsieur!). Orh srsly, every time I feel pain, I am reminded of that quote in Da Vinci Code. “Pain is good, monsieur.” Maybe so in some cases, but it is ridiculous to inflict it upon yourself. ... Physically, anyway :/ *100% emotional masochist*

Socialising is terribly troublesome! It’s almost November and I still don’t think I’ve settled into NUS very well and I miss AC more and more every day. I used to be able to walk through the canteen and actually recognise people even if I am useless with remembering some people’s names, now it’s like THERE ARE SO MANY CANTEENS. AND SO MANY PEOPLE. ARGH CROWDS, 123 HULK SMASH. Never mind the canteen, I couldn’t even walk anywhere in AC without seeing SOMEONE I knew cos all the normal people hang out at the usual hanging-out places and all the art people hang out everywhere else, hahaha! We are like rats, it is like Neverwhere eh! Neil Gaiman hurry up and come to Singapore so I can redeem myself and actually say something intelligent in front of you instead of just staring in mesmerised awe.

Hetalia Day is coming! I’m going for the event at East Coast this Saturday yay! :D Hopefully I’ll be able to make blini for the international potluck, haha! In case anyone reading this is interested, the official website for it is here: http://ksquared.web.fc2.com/hetaday/top.htm. (You have to sign up cos they’re giving away freebies and you gotta tell them what you’re bringing for potluck and if you’re participating in the sketchbook exchange.) My thighs and ass are killing me because of my first Akido lesson on Friday, I hope the muscle-ache wears off in time cos I want to go cycling after that :< Oh Tiger Balm and Salonpas, what would I do without you…

I went for Russian Night yesterday!! :D There were Russian people! And blini! And black tea! :O I don’t feel so alone in my obsession with Russia anymore, hahaha! THANK YOU RACHEL FOR TELLING ME AND GOING WITH ME EVEN THOUGH I EXASPERATE YOU ALL THE TIME I LOVE YOUUU~

I also met a Russian lady who teaches Russian at a place near IKEA! It’s $250 for 5 weekly sessions which last 2 hours. Definitely cheaper than the Cambridge centre, which is all the way at Peninsula Plaza. At least I actually have a straight bus to IKEA and the building is within a walkable distance. The only problem is that group sessions for the next Beginner’s course are scheduled on Wednesday nights and I have Psych tutorials until 8pm on odd weeks TT_TT Hopefully there will be sessions available in the next cycle in December :/ In the meantime, I should concentrate on school first, yeah… SIGH. Oh I liked the blini so much that last night I dreamt I was in the supermarket shopping for ingredients >_>

And then this for more education than you would really want to know... )

Even though I feel quite behind on my studying for Monday’s Psych midterm, today has been full of so many kinds of awesome :D

Woke up early to go down to the Arts House box office to queue for limited first-come-first-serve tickets to Neil Gaiman’s events in the upcoming Writers’ Festival. Rach, Liz and Sharyl joined me in that traditional Singaporean art for more than an hour because I was paranoid about there being an indecently long queue since HELLO THIS IS NEIL GAIMAN. When we got there, there were already quite a lot of people in the queue so we just sat down and talked shit and studied and took turns to hold my umbrella up against the encroaching morning sun. Then when the box office opened at 11am and the line started moving, I was like OMG EXCITE PLEASE LET THERE BE TICKETS. But then while we were still a distance back in the queue, the distributors announced that they were running out of Sunday tickets to the Meet-the-Author session so I was like FUCK PLEASE LET THERE BE TICKETS LEFT FOR ME and prayed in the queue. So when we finally got to the table, I was like, “Erh, dyou have two Sunday tickets?” (cos one person was allowed to only buy two tickets and I wanted to get for the others) and the lady at the table gave them to me and THEY WERE THE LAST TWO SUNDAY TICKETS ASKDJSAKDLJSAKDLSDKF I WENT INTO PAROXYMS OF DELIGHT HAHAHA. When she announced to the rest of the queue that there were no more Sunday tickets, I was like oh hell now all those people will hate me BUT WHATEVER I HAVE SUNDAY TICKETS FUCK YEAH >D Wah, seriously, I thank God so much for answering such a simple prayer. Sure, we had to compromise with who would attend which events, but I’m so glad we were there when we were. And at least we got tickets! As we were heading off for lunch, there was still quite a queue left when they announced that they’d run out of tickets D: That sucks to the max lah, but I guess you win some you lose some. OH NEIL GAIMAN, YOU ARE WORTH ALL THIS AND MORE YES YOU ARE <3

After my ticketing euphoria, we went to MOF for lunch and ate the best soft-serve ice-cream (shut up liz DX) ever. MOF soft-serve reveals Mac’s soft-serve for the fraud it is D< I had just cold soba for food cos I desperately wanted to try their chocolate shake and it was SO GOOD. Rach was like, “Why is it that every time I see you eat, you’re always eating carbos! Where is your meat?? Your veg??” Ahahaha, I’m a self-confessed carbo junkie, POTATO CHIP SANDWICHES FTW. But I DO eat meat and veg what! I love meat, what would I do without meat, tasty tasty meat... But it was so hot today that ice-cream and chocolate milkshake was my priority, hahaha. Aah Food, you shall always be a Top 3 on my lifelong priority list (the first two being Books and Sleep, of course).

Then I finally got to watch Inglourious Basterds with Liz, Sharyl and Rox, YAY. After seeing so many crossover Hetalia fanart, I was like ASDFKJDKL MUST WATCH THIS MOVIE. My first Quentin Tarantino movie too! Oh god, it was so awesome *_* And all through the movie, I couldn’t get this image out of my mind: http://theyoungdoyler.deviantart.com/art/Inglourious-Hetalia-complete-134971729 XD I love Aldo/America and Donny/Romano, they’re so apt, hahaha! (Dear God, Zoller/Prussia, what were you THINKING going after Shosanna/France LOLOL.) Oh Donny! May your kickass brain-bashing baseball bat and Romano swearing (“FUCK-A-DUCK!”) and fail!Italian and psychotic trigger happiness live on X) Eli Roth is so full of win <3 Also, I officially love the phrase “Mexican stand-off”, HAHA. And I think it’s so hilariously cool that Quentin Tarantino cameo-ed as an unnamed Nazi footman who was the first to be depicted being scalped by the Basterds XD

Holidays lose their meaning the higher you climb up the education ladder TT_TT It’s my recess week and I had 2 social service agency visits today, an English project to work on tomorrow, 2 term papers to write, and a midterm Psych test to study for D8 Cheese and fuckin’ krauts...

On the bright side, I watched 9 with Rachel yesterday and it was SO GOOD. Okay the plot was kinda weird and not as much character development as I would’ve liked, BUT IT WAS STILL REALLY REALLY GOOD. THE ART. THE MUSIC. THE EFFECTS. ASLDKJASDLKSF <333 You can’t go wrong with Tim Burton for a producer and Timur Bekmambetov for one of the directors. And Crispin Glover’s voice is so cute, aww XD It’s films like 9 that make me wish my art was good enough for me to pursue a career in art >_> I don’t even know what I really want to do with my life apart from going to Russia and marrying Ivan. Sigh :/

Liz took me to see an art installation at 8Q the other day and I was so overwhelmed by it that it made me cry. YAH THERE IS HOPE FOR LOCAL ART AFTER ALL X< I think the installation was called “View with a Room” by a group of artists called Vertical Submarine, if I remember correctly. The giant book, the huge rusty chain, the pews, the wardrobe, the secret path, the secret room... Especially the room. I’ve never felt so much peace in such a bleak and lonely setting. It was so mind-blowingly poignant. Now half of me wants to make the whole world go see it because it is a KICKASS INSTALLATION, but the other half of me feels bitterly jealous that a space of such significant personal value to me is open to the public. And there’s also the fact that the exhibition only lasts till December this year, after which I will never be able to visit it in person again. Reality is cruel. Even though I try to console myself by resolving to get my own apartment and decorating it like that room, it just isn’t the same. It makes me feel cheated somehow. Another thing that made me feel cheated was that installation in the 8Q outdoor atrium. That huge set-up with all the fish tanks connected to each other. When I first saw it while walking to 8Q I was like EYYY OUTDOOR CHINESE SEAFOOD RESTAURRROHHhh what the hell T_T Because the tanks were filled with water from the Singapore River. And that’s it. ... Seriously, can we even call that water? The Singapore River is like a river of zombie apocalypse waiting to happen. If the world doesn’t end in several thousand years, we could probably extract fossil fuel from all the shit down there >_>

School is starting soon! D:

I still need to go to the NUS co-ops to get my texts and course packs >_> Ah well, Tuesday I end at 12nn so I have the rest of the day to get lost on campus buy my shit. I’m glad I managed to get all the modules I bid for though, bidding was like hell on toast, all the more so because I really had no idea what was going on even after reading the CORS guide. Luckily I had Mren, Mei and Gloria to remedy my noobness, hahaha. Thanks guys! :D Still don’t know my full timetable because tutorial balloting for my modules hasn’t started, but what I DO know is that:

  1. I’ll be taking modules in Psychology, Political Science, English Language, Japanese Studies and Social Work. The world can decide for itself if it considers this a good or bad thing.
  2. All my lectures fall within the Monday to Thursday range, so if I manage to get the tutorial slots I’m gunning for, my Fridays will be free yay :D
  3. Bidding is like hell on toast. I cannot stress this enough.

Oh yeah, and I’m officially 19 already o_o Wah, I think the fact that I’m going to university still hasn’t sunk in because I don’t seem to feel the aging process as keenly as other people. Yesterday I went to NUS to submit my GIRO form and I was surrounded by all these adult-looking people who gave me weird looks and I was like aw hell, this is going to be my school for the next 4 years >_> People there actually look like what university students are expected to look like. I still have relatives asking about my O or A Levels T_T One aunt asked me about my PSLE but thankfully that was in Sec 2. If anyone tries that again, I will use their arterial spray to repaint my room.

Also, I realise with every visit to the library, my list of books I want to read just keeps growing longer and longer. And it doesn’t help that all of them are historical non-fiction books, the brethren of which I have been voraciously devouring for the past several months. I was so impressed with Black Earth by Andrew Meier and Stalingrad by Antony Beevor that those books are on my official hunt list the next time Kinokuniya has a sale >8D The other day I went to Kino with Rach and Viv, and I found an ENTIRE SHELF dedicated to Russian history and politics. OH KINO HOW I LOVE YOU SO, DON’T WORRY MY PRECIOUS BOOKS, MUMMY WILL BE COMING BACK FOR YOU SOON <333 Speaking of Russia, as Singapore celebrates National Day, the 9th of August this year also marks the tenth anniversary of Putin’s ascent to power since Yeltsin appointed him Prime Minister in 1999. ... Putin is scary D: I don’t know what else to think of him, really. (Oh Ivan, why do you always have such scary bosses, come here and get the tender loving care you deserve *hug*)

And there is absolutely nothing weird about the fact that I read the Moscow Times online every day.

I CAN FINALLY CYCLE WITHOUT TRAINING WHEELS YAYYY!

Saturday: Met Rach in Holland V for dinner after her epic SMU carwashing for CIP, haha. We ended up eating at El Patio, which is this small but really nice Mexican food place, and in the middle of our meal, Rach was like, “Eh, check out where the glass is from.” So I peered into my glass of cold water to see the text at the bottom and it said MADE IN RUSSIA, HAHAHAHAHA. OH RACHEL, THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT, IT TOTALLY MADE MY DAY XD And I spent such a long time peering into my glass to look at it that a waitress was like, “Is there something in your water? I can change it for you.” and I was like LOL NO I’M JUST LOOKING AT WHERE THIS GLASS WAS MADE IN THANKS 8D Hahahaha, I make life difficult for everybody, I see.

Monday: Went for the MOE Induction Programme in a skirt X( Because the dress code was formal, in preparation for the presentation ceremony in August, and I opened my closet in the morning to find that I had no formal-looking pants to wear that day. I stopped office work in mid-May so since then, my office pants have been kinda rotting at the bottom of my laundry pile because I just cannot be assed to iron them. I see the error of my ways =_= Anyway, after the programme, I went to meet Liz at IKEA and we went to Vivo‘s Marché for dinner. Really splurged on good food there, hahaha. I hardly ever go to Marché so I was like aah what the hell. In the end, we ended up sharing a pork knuckle, pasta, rosti, and ice-cream, all of which tasted HELLA NICE. And we got free apples, lol.

Tuesday: THE DAY I FINALLY LEARNED TO CYCLE, HAHA! Liz and I went to Sentosa to rent their bikes and she taught me how to cycle along the beach biking trails. After a lot of swearing, screaming, false starts and accidents, I finally managed to cycle on my own in one hour. ONE HOUR EH, NOT BAD FOR SOMEONE WHO HASN’T TOUCHED A BIKE IN 10 YEARS >8D Actually, SOMEONE WHO HASN’T TOUCHED A BIKE WITHOUT TRAINING WHEELS EVER. I’m so proud of me XD And Liz too, thank you for being such a good teacher hahaha! Rox joined us later and I was so psyched that we went for another hour of cycling, but I tore my jeans at the knee cos I crashed into the bushes while trying to go down a slope that was a lot steeper than it seemed at first, haha. Luckily I was wearing jeans though, cos if I had changed into the shorts I brought before that, my left knee would’ve been a bloody mess, lol. Oh well, now I have hobo jeans :P Then we met Sharyl and Mren for dinner at Carl’s Jr. THANK YOU SHARYL FOR GETTING ME THE SPECIAL EDITION HETALIA VOL. 2 XD I was high the whole day, hahaha!

Wednesday: The third day in a row I went to Vivo, lol. Monday for dinner, Tuesday for cycling and dinner, Wednesday for – I kidding not – shopping D: Because since I tore my jeans on Tuesday, I officially had no presentable jeans to wear for everyday use, lol. All my other jeans have like... floral patterns on them, thanks to the fact that 90% of my existing wardrobe was supplied by relatives =_= So yes, Rox brought Mren and me shopping for back-to-school clothes, Rox being the shopping expert and me being the shopping noob who didn’t even know where to start. I now realise how wholly dependent on school uniforms I have been, hahaha. But at least it wasn’t a total disaster, I managed to get two pairs of good comfy jeans from Giordano. Mren got two pairs of jeans too, plus an orange sundress so that she has something nice to wear for her Archi crit sessions, haha! And she already plans to wear that dress to Greece when we go on our backpacking trip, lol. Yes, Mren, romantic sunset at the beach in Greece all XD Speaking of the trip, I went to the National Geographic store to see if they had any maps I could get and I FOUND MAPS OF RUSSIA <3 Still wondering if I should get one :/ If I actually get one, what am I going to do with it? Haha, I could just frame it up and hang it on the wall in my room and stare at it all day long. My face would be like :) Haha, by the end of all my staring sessions, I bet I could memorise the entire map >D But gosh, I love the Nat Geog store, it is like going around the world in a small corner of Singapore :D Except we never really get to see total eclipses, pangsai... T_T

14 July 2009 @ 03:46 pm

So I’m stuck at home, sick and groggy =_= Yesterday Liz and I were on MSN and we got food cravings. I wanted soup and she wanted potato chips. And then Liz was like, “I wish I could get my mum to make soup and then I could bring it over for you.” and I was like, “You know what? The kitchen cupboard is full of packets of potato chips over here.” ... TRAGEDY, I TELL YOU D8

But how did I get sick so suddenly! I can only think of 3 possible reasons:

1.       Clari spread it to me over the phone D8 On Sunday, she called to say, “I THINK I HAVE SWINE FLU!! I hope I don’t pass it to you over this call.” On Monday, I woke up with no voice and a runny nose T_T

2.       I caught it from hanging out with Rach. Lol, apparently payback for the time I fell sick in school and she walked me out the main gate for all of 15 minutes, only to catch a killer bug the next day which left her voiceless for 2 weeks XD

3.       I caught it from Cosfest, KNNCCBLJCROWDSANDTHEIRHAZARDS D<

Oh yeah, speaking of Cosfest...

Jenn, you totally need to see this. )

1.       On the train ride to Pasir Ris, this tall ang moh couple and their little boy came in and sat opposite me. I was listening to Russian music on my ipod when I caught a bit of what they were talking and was like, “... Hang on!” so I took one of my earphones out just as the little boy said something to his dad. And then the dad was like, “Ya tozhe.” and I was like !!!!!! because that means “Me too” in Russian. So FUCK YEAH, I SAT OPPOSITE A RUSSIAN FAMILY ON THE TRAIN, HOW COOL IS THAT XD I had my Russian phrasebook in my bag and had to resist the urge to take it out and try to translate what they were saying, lol. So I just sat there beaming away at nothing in particular. The little boy was SO CUTE, he had the nicest blonde hair and big sky-blue eyes! When I told Liz, she was like, “Lol, when that boy grows up, he’s going to be taller than you.” Okay, 2 unfair advantages here: One, he’s a BOY. Two, he’s a RUSSIAN boy. FOREGONE CONCLUSION HELLO DX

2.       MERANDA GOT ME A RUSSIA HETALIA CHARACTER CARD YESSS!!! XD I literally screamed when she suddenly shoved it in front of my face, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU MREN <3 So now I have Russia and Belarus and Switzerland, yay! :D

3.       I saw lots of Hetalia cosplayers! On Saturday, I only managed to spy some of the German nations and the team of Nordic nations, but Sunday had more variety. Mren took a photo of the Hetalia team on her phone. I sadly have no photos of my own because, being the moron that I am, I forgot to bring my camera. AGAIN =_= I will go bang my head against the wall now.

4.       And while we’re on the subject of Hetalia cosplayers... YES, I FINALLY met a Russia cosplayer IN PERSON >8D So okay, the cosplayer was a girl but HELL YEAH THE COSTUME. THE WIG. THE SUNFLOWERS. THE PIPE XD She was definitely one of the best Hetalia cosplayers I saw there. I was so thrilled cos I walked past her on the way to Jenn’s booth, then while I was hanging around at playing with the cards again (lol) I got a pleasant surprise when the Russia cosplayer appeared out of nowhere next to me. So... yeah, I had many !!! moments throughout the day XD And THIS time, I took a photo with her HURRAH~ Now to stalk Edlyn for the photo, since it was Edlyn’s camera, hahaha! Shitty nehneh, if only I had worn my communist party tshirt on Sunday, the photo would’ve been even more epic >_>

5.       After Cosfest, Rach and I went to eat thick French toast and drink milk tea at that Chinese restaurantish place, I think it’s called “streets” or something. Their French toast is <3, it’s like... bigger than a Rubik’s cube lah, seriously. And they put honey and butter on it. The milk tea is nice too! But gosh, we were super full halfway through so we had to eat really really slowly, hahaha. When we finally finished all our toast, both of us were like, “... That’s my dinner.” FFF, SO FULL...

So yeah, three days of excite in a row. And all three days had Russia involved somehow :D I am beyond psyched, hahaha!

11 July 2009 @ 11:10 pm

I went for Cosfest VIII today! Eee, long train ride down to Pasir Ris, but it was totally worth it cos I bought lots of Hetalia Russia stuff and got to see Jenn at her booth too!

AMANDA’S COSFEST HAUL:

A sketchbook with Russia on the cover

A Russia keychain

A Russia and China commie badge

A deck of Hetalia cards made by the very talented Jenn :D

A set of Hetalia chibi prints, courtesy of Jenn too, haha! THANK YOUUU <3

World Shuffle, a Hetalia fanbook

Yes, Hetalia has taken over my life, I DIE WITH NO REGRETS!!! XD I am beyond psyched lah, especially since Liz and I went for the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto Extravaganza concert last night, I AM SO GLAD I WENT FOR IT. I hardly ever go to concerts and this was my first time sitting so close to the orchestra (we were in the fifth row from the front), it was damn excite :D Then when the conductor came on stage, Liz and I simultaneously went, “SO CUTE!!” HAHAHA XD Cos he was this young Polish guy called Krzysztof Urbański and he had this really cute boyish face and slightly spiky hair, and all through the concert he was SUPER ANIMATED. So okay, conductors are supposed to wave their hands around madly and all, but this guy has the most WIN facial expressions ever. Like when the orchestra was playing “In the Hall of the Mountain King” from Peer Gynt, when it came to the menacing part, he turned to the musicians and made this GRR I AM A TROLL face and I almost died trying not to laugh out loud XD Too adorable, hahaha! He is the cutest conductor ever, I swear. Oh and the pianist, Stephen Hough! Even though our seats were on the right so we couldn’t get a clear look at his hands, I could see them reflected in the piano cover and I was like HIS FINGERS WHERE ARE HIS FINGERS D8 Like LIGHTNING leh! And he was super animated too haha, he literally jumped off his seat at the exciting piano parts and he really looked like he was enjoying himself. I’m a concert and music noob but seriously, that concert was some of the best shit ever. Also, Russian classical music is totally for the sexy win :D

So after a night of excite, I had a day of excite at Cosfest with Liz and Rox, hurrah! Haha, highlight of my day would have to be playing Jenn’s addictive Hetalia card game at her booth, JENN WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, HAHA. I won the prints because I could finish matching all 40 cards in less than 1 min 30 sec, I still remember my individual record is 1 min 23 sec, hahaha! I teamed up with Silk’s friend (who I only know as The Austria Girl, lol) and we got a timing of 58 sec. Must be Prussia beaming his awesomeness to us >8D Tomorrow I’m going again with Rachel and Meranda, so I shall drop by and see if I can beat my own record, lol :P And if I see a Russia cosplayer, I swear I will scream.

Why do I keep forgetting to mention things!

In addition to my arsenal of books on Russia which I borrowed yesterday, there is also Daniel Kalder's Lost Cosmonaut: Travels to the republics that tourism forgot, which is horrendously funny in an acerbic, trippy kind of way. This is what the blurb on the inside of the jacket says:

Lost Cosmonaut documents Daniel Kalder's travels in the bizarre and mysterious worlds of Russia's ethnic republics. Obsessed with a quest he never fully understands, Kalder boldly goes where no man has gone before: in the deserts of Kalmykia, he stumbles upon a city dedicated to chess and a forgotten tribe of Mongols; in Mari El, home to Europe's last pagan nation, he meets the Chief Druid and participates in an ancient rite; while in the black and industrial badlands of Udmurtia, Kalder looks for Mikhail Kalashnikov, inventor of the AK47, and accidentally becomes a TV star.

... Shit, sometimes I wish I weren't a girl. Then I can run around the world with such daredevil bravado without having to worry about periods and getting accosted or raped by, as Ms Tan Choon Gan from MG liked to say, "hairy monsters". Though I suppose the whole getting accosted and raped thing isn't necessarily a danger exclusively reserved for females. But still, not being a girl must up your chances in avoiding that sort of thing somehow. Note that I say "I wish I weren't a girl" as opposed to "I wish I were a guy", because I don't. Confused yet?

Anyway, here's one of my many favourite excerpts from the book:

1552-57
The Mari fight against Russian colonization. They lose.

1572-74
The Mari fight against Russian colonization again. They lose.

1581-84
The Mari fight against Russian colonization once more. And lose.

(from Mari El, Chapter 8: Some highlights from the history of the Mari)

Ahh, history.

Another thing I forgot to mention: while in the library yesterday, I took out my sketchbook to work on some RussiaxBelarus stuff as a break from Russian homework. When I finished, I looked up for the first time at the shelf I was seated next to and was promptly confronted with the title Loving Big Brother. Upon further investigation, I realised it was a sociology book on surveillance and personal freedom (ie. Big Brother being a reference to 1984's Big Brother), but still. I had to muffle a PFFBT. O Life, you are so witty sometimes!

I want to travel so badly. Everyone is going overseas! Whether on holiday or for college. Rachel, why you always pangseh us on your birthday :( Don't get mugged and don't get swine flu in Chicago man. Liz is still somewhere in France, unable to take photos of the pretty scenery because the winds are too strong for her skirts (France's diabolical plan! Come to my place and wear pretty skirts! And then, VVWOOSHHH!!). And then in September, I foresee a lot of trips to Changi Airport because I shall be seeing Viv and Clari and Estelle off. Do NOT sing the Graduation song at me because I will slap your face off.

On the bright side, I bought a bottle of Russian vodka on Sunday. Yah, after church some more. Cos Rox and I went to check out the wine fair in the atrium downstairs and I was like, oh is a wine fair, no vodka :( And then I walked into some crates of vodka and I was like, OH HEEEYYY. It went something like this:

Me: OMG VODKA!
Rox: OMG HAHA.
Me: OMG RUSSIAN VODKA!
Rox: OMG BUY.

Well. ... It was on sale! And it was real Russian vodka! Plus I had this whole trippy IT WAS MEANT TO BE vibe the whole time. So yeah, I bought it, but Rox is helping me keep it for the time being X)

Ok guys, that's it, 8 years man. 8 years to save up, learn new languages, plan and shit, and then we are off on our whirlwind backpacking trip around the world! AROUND THE WORLD, I SAY!!

Yesterday was International Museum Day! SO MANY KIDS TO HANDLE. And more tomorrow too! Боже мой! D8 Ok, this probably requires some explanation. Officially, I'm kinda unemployed at the moment since my contract with my full-time employer ended on 15 May (hurrah for early release! XD), but I'm also kinda working at ArtLoft, which is like an art studio/workshop thingie at 8Q. So it's sort of like working for SAM, I realise o_o But anyway yeah, Meranda and I are art instructors there so we handle the weekend art workshops for kids mostly. And I must admit, the kids there are... kinda... cute... >_> Although they're all so small and light, I keep feeling this overwhelming compulsion to pick one up and see how far I can throw it. SHOT-PUT! *THWPING!* Anyway, yeah, there's a workshop tomorrow at SAM with over a hundred kids coming and Mren and I are like O_O Hopefully there won't be too many Ryan Lee types running about with manic glee, hahaha. I swear that boy only gets away with it because he's so cute. And small. And probably extremely throwable.

BUT OHO, SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENED YESTERDAY WHICH TOTALLY MADE MY DAY. AND WEEK. AND MONTH. AND YEAR. AND- ah heck, I LOVE YOU MREN! IN A TOTALLY PLATONIC AND NON-LES WAY! XD

In Russia, paper cuts you <3 )

So I am finally posting something of substantial length on this LJ instead of using my Diaryland blog :O SHOCK SHOCK HORROR HORROR SHOCK SHOCK HORROR (Which is actually part of some song I heard on TV, it was used to advertise an episode of some animal documentary on Okto. The song went something like this: "The feeemaaale of the speeeciiieeesss is more deadlyyy than the maaale...")

Went to AC with Meranda to collect A Level certs and SGC today, and also to abuse the photocopying machine so I can finally own some good notes for Russian, ehehe. I actually spend a few hours on it every day and have an exercise book to do all the practises in, O STUDIOUS ME! If only I were this guai in actual school, hahaha! We bumped into DT at the photocopying room and he was like, "How dyou say 'I will live in Montana and own a recreational vehicle' in Russian?" and I was like T_T Dude. I've only had the damn book for a week and I'm still learning basic grammar and vocabulary. Yah, Amanda the International Grammar Nazi. I REFUSE to butcher such a wonderful language, it's bad enough having to deal with Engrish every day >_> But anyway, because I am curious and want to practise, here you go DT: Я буду жить в Монтана и буду иметь транспорт для отдыха. It translates literally into "I will live in Montana and will have transport for leisure", which is the closest I can get to "own a recreational vehicle" (wth, hahaha). At least, I HOPE it translates to that, I have no way to check at the moment because I don't have a proper tutor or penpal to ask :/ The Cambridge language centres in Singapore offer Russian courses, but 10 lessons under the Basic module already cost $385 and Intermediate and Advanced classes are like $400+, so I'm like aaahhh... So I will master as much of Basic as I can on my own and see how it goes from there. I know there are forums for this sort of thing, but I am still apprehensive in case of internet weirdos and flame wars, lol. Oh well, see how lah... Learning new languages is exciting :D

So after collecting documents and epic photocopying and lunching with Rox, Mren and I went for an NUS campus tour of the SDE and FASS buildings with a couple of NUS seniors. I didn't know what they would look like, I was just told to meet them at Clementi at 2 so I was like, "Eh let's do the airport thing and hold up name signs." HAHAHA XD Mren helped me write "VICTOR & MICHELLE :)" on a spare piece of paper and I held it up as I stood there at the control station, LOL. ... Well. At least it worked, we got their attention pretty good there X) Tour was interesting and the people were friendly, weather was BITCHING HOT AND HUMID, but then again what's new, Singapore? =_= OH IVAN, I SHALL COME OVER TO WARM UP YOUR RUSSIAN WINTERS SOMEDAY XD

On the subject of uni, I still don't know if I should apply for hostel stay. MOE recommends it as part of their teaching scholarship programme and they reimburse me for a year's stay at standard rates, but if I don't intend to stay in a hostel for at least one year, I have to write in to them with a "valid reason" T_T Personally, I'm quite open to hostel stay but my mum is like "LOOK AT YOU, YOU'RE NOT READY." Right. When I'm 40 and want to move out, she will still be going "LOOK AT YOU, YOU'RE NOT READY.", only in a more old lady voice. Oh god, I hope I get to move out before I turn 30 D8 I shall flip my trusty coin on this. Ok, heads hostel, tails no hostel. ... *flips* Heads hostel. ... Alright then, lol. And while we're at it, heads LPP, tails no LPP. *flips* Heads LPP. ... Good God, Trusty 5-Rand Coin, dyou want me to DIE in uni?? I'm majoring in Psych, taking 4 modules in English and 2 modules in Math, and you STILL want me to take a course in the Language Preparation Programme? Can I cope?? And why am I talking to a coin???

Haha, ok, I only have a livejournal account (as of now) because the Spectra blog is on lj. My REAL blog is here: http://feimao.diaryland.com

Yeah, I know, you're probably going, "What the, DIARYLAND???" It's about four and a half years old and I'm just too lazy to get another blog. Anyway, it's really easy to remember! And I have tons of funny shit there which I'd like to keep to reread on my un-funny days, haha. SO! I'm not going to bother doing anything to my lj here. Please note that the whole cute pink cat layout thing really doesn't have anything to do with my personality, if I had a choice, I'd have Dexteresque blood spatters all over the place.

Plus I have NO IDEA how to use livejournal o_O
